The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported Monday evening that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes had risen to 356 people, including 24 children, and that another 1,246 had been wounded.
These are the deadliest Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the last major war between Israel and the Iran-allied Hezbollah militia in 2006.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the Israeli Air Force destroyed “tens of thousands of missiles that threatened Israeli civilians” during massive attacks on Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire almost daily for about a year, forcing some 150,000 people on both sides of the border to flee their homes.
The conflict flared up again last week after thousands of communications devices were detonated in Lebanon, killing more than 50 people, including civilians, and an Israeli attack on Hezbollah leadership near Beirut.
