The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported Monday evening that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes had risen to 492 people, while 1,645 were injured.
The ministry said 35 children and 58 women were killed after Israel carried out the deadliest wave of airstrikes on Iranian-linked Hezbollah militias since 2006.
The campaign, which is focused on southern and eastern Lebanon, began Monday morning and has hit 1,300 Hezbollah targets, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described it as a preemptive strike aimed at destroying Hezbollah’s weapons.
