  • Ukraine has carried out a series of attacks on Russian ammunition depots over the past week.

  • Recently released satellite images from before and after the attacks show massive damage in three places.

  • The photos show scorched earth, destroyed buildings and huge explosion craters.

Newly released satellite images show extensive damage to three major ammunition depots in Russia as a result of multiple attacks in Ukraine over the past week.

Ukraine said it had attacked three arsenals – one last week and two over the weekend – that housed Russian weapons including ballistic missiles, glide bombs and artillery ammunition.

The recent attacks, targeting two facilities in western Russia and a third in the south of the country, are the latest long-range strikes by Ukraine in a devastating campaign against key locations supporting Moscow’s war machine.

Before and after satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies shows significant damage at the three munitions depots, including destroyed buildings, huge explosion craters, toppled trees, scorched earth and destroyed train cars.

The first in the recent series of attacks in Ukraine took place on September 17 and targeted a facility in Toropets in Russia’s western Tver region with long-range drones.

A source at Ukraine’s Security Service told Business Insider that a large warehouse in Toropets, where Russian ammunition was stored, was “literally wiped off the face of the earth” in the attack, the source said on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive operations.

The British Ministry of Defence said the attacks caused an explosion comparable in power to a light earthquakewith a reading of 2.7 on the Richter scale. It said Russia had poorly stockpiled its munitions and left them vulnerable to attack, leading to successive detonations and massive losses of ammunition.

Toropets is located more than 480 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, underscoring the scale of the attacks.

A few days after that attack, on Saturday, the Ukrainian military said that hit another arsenal in the Tver region — this one in Oktyabrsky.

In its Sept. 21 announcement, the Ukrainian military also said it targeted an arsenal in Tikhoretsk, a city in the southern Krasnodar Krai region. Kiev described the site as one of Russia’s largest munitions storage facilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy referred to the recent attacks in a speech to the nation late Saturday. While he did not name the arsenals, he described one as “significant” for Russia.

“These were depots of Russian tactical missiles and guided bombs – all the things that Russia uses to terrorize our cities and positions,” Zelenskyy said.

The recent devastating attacks appear to be the latest demonstration of Ukraine’s will to do nothing. long range attack capabilitiesKiev is not allowed to use its Western-supplied missiles to attack military targets in Russia, so it is instead relying on domestically produced drones to carry out this campaign.

For months, Kiev has managed to hit military and energy facilities deep inside Russia — some hundreds of miles from the international border and front lines, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said in a Saturday report information update that Russian air defenses are still struggling to cope with “Ukrainian deep strike operations.”

“I want to emphasize that we are doing this thanks to our capabilities, our weapons – without the means that our partners can provide and that can significantly accelerate the end of this war by destroying Russia’s offensive potential,” Zelenskyy said on Saturday.
