Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi said on Tuesday that Israel is directly responsible “for the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Gaza” and that “this crisis is a deliberate result of a destructive war of revenge against the Gaza Strip.”

Israel must stop using hunger as a weapon and allow the flow of aid to the Gaza Strip, he said at a humanitarian conference taking place at the Dead Sea in Jordan.

UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said the UN estimates that $2.5 billion will be needed between April and the end of the year to provide aid to people in the Gaza Strip.
