Digitalization, AI and regulatory challenges take center stage at ITMF and IAF conference

The ITMF, IAF conference, titled “Innovation, Collaboration and Regulation – Driving Forces of the Textile and Apparel Industry”, will explore the most pressing issues and trends in the global textile industry through expert discussions and multiple panel sessions.

The event is organized in cooperation with the Uztextileprom Association and brings together more than 500 industry professionals, including representatives of leading international textile companies, brands, financial institutions and retailers.

Conference Programme – Day 1

The first day will focus on fibers, specifically the production and processing of raw cotton. Experts from Indorama Corp. (Singapore), Global Textile (Uzbekistan) and Cotton Analytics (USA) will discuss cotton’s journey from field to fashion, Uzbekistan’s shift from tradition to innovation and the significant changes in the global cotton industry over the past 50 years.

The second part of the session will focus on the production of man-made fibres and the challenges posed by the lack of natural materials in the global textile industry.

Conference Programme – Day 2

The second and main day of the ITMF, IAF conference will cover a wide range of current issues and global trends. Euratex (Belgium) will present the EU Strategy for Sustainable Textiles and explore prospects for international cooperation, while Steve Lamar, President and CEO of the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), will provide insights into the regulatory landscape in the US.

Key topics include digitalisation, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the textile supply chain and solutions to the skills shortage in the textile industry. Participants will also delve into digital labelling with AAFA and the digitalisation of distribution with Christian Lott from DMIx (Germany). In addition, the session will cover the role of AI in addressing the skills gap in the industry.

The conference will conclude with the presentation of the ITMF Awards and the ITMF Start-up Award, which recognise outstanding achievements and start-ups in the global textile industry.

The final session on collaboration will be held with representatives from Inditex (Spain), Epic Group (Hong Kong, China) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), who will discuss the future of sustainability and strategies for waste reduction.

After the formal agenda, delegates will have the opportunity to visit local textile factories and tour the ancient city of Bukhara, an important location along the Great Silk Road.

Following the conference, the Global Textile Dialog forum will take place in Tashkent on 13 September 2024. This will continue the international dialogue between textile industry leaders and bring together local and international organisations.
