A hotel in Thailand has been named the best in the world in 2024 for its dramatic riverside architecture and renowned spa experiences, all in the heart of vibrant Bangkok.
Chapel Bangkoklocated in the city center and overlooking the Chao Phraya River, is scheduled for completion in 2024 The 50 Best Hotels in the World Academywhich consists of 600 anonymous leaders in the hotel industry, all chosen based on their expert opinion and background in the hotel industry, who vote on hotels that they have experienced.
Capella rose 10 places on the Best Hotel 2023 list and also won the Best Hotel in Asia 2024 award.
Opened in 2020, the contemporary hotel describes itself as an “urban oasis.” It is surrounded by landscaped gardens and all 101 rooms face the water, so every guest has a river view.
Riverside Villas and Veranda Suites are available to guests – the only ones of their kind in Bangkok – complete with their own private Jacuzzi plunge pools. The hotel is also home to a number of award-winning restaurants and bars, including the Michelin-starred French and Italian eatery Côte by Mauro Colagreco.
The hotel is also known for its world-famous Auriga Spa, where ancient healing techniques are practiced, and for its ‘Capella Culturists’, personal local guides who are experienced in a variety of activities in Bangkok and help guests plan their stay in the city.

The Capella Bangkok joins 18 other hotels in Asia on the list of the world’s best hotels in 2024, making it the continent with the most hotels in the ranking.
This also includes the 65-storey tower Rosewood Hong Kongis ranked third and is known for its signature hospitality and elegant interior design.
The Capella in Bangkok isn’t the only hotel in the city to make the list, as the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok (no. 12), Four seasons Bangkok at the Chao Phraya River (No. 14) and The Siamese (no. 26) all achieved a well-deserved place.
The five-star Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok has been around for almost 150 years and has hosted guests from Grace Kelley to Marlon Brando over the years. It is one of many world-famous hotels on the list, along with Claridge’s in London (No. 11) and four of the Four Seasons hotels worldwide.
Elsewhere in Asia, Japan took three places on the list, including Aman Tokyo (No. 7), which scored high for its transition from urban to escapist, Bulgari Tokyo (No. 22), a new hotel that also won the Nikka Best New Hotel 2024 for the highest-ranked hotel opened in the past 18 months, and Park Hyatt Kyoto (No. 27), known for its tasteful Japanese design.
Europe has 13 of the best hotels in the world, with Cheval Blanc Paris finishing highest at number four, while North America won nine entries, with Maoma in Mexico It is ranked number 18 and has also won the Flor de Caña Eco Hotel Award for its commitment to sustainability.
