SunSource Energy, a subsidiary of Dutch off-grid energy provider SHV Energy, has commissioned a 21 MWp solar power plant in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, India. This marks its entry into the state.

The project covers an area of 50 hectares (202,343 m2) and is expected to generate approximately 760 million kWh of clean energy. Over its technical life cycle, this could potentially offset up to 700 million kg of CO2 emissions.

SunSource partners with leading commercial and industrial companies to maximize the plant’s energy capacity.

Santanu Guha, CEO, SunSource Energy, said, “We are excited to commission our first plant in Tamil Nadu, one of the leading states for renewable energy in India. Since Tamil Nadu is home to several industries including automotive, IT&ITES, textiles, manufacturing, etc., this project is just the beginning for us in the state. We envision planning several new projects for C&I customers and help them in their energy transition.”

Ajay Sanghi, CEO of SuperGas, which has partnered on the project, commented: “By partnering with SunSource Energy to source solar power for our Tuticorin Terminal, we are not only reducing carbon emissions at the terminal but just as importantly, increasing cost efficiency. This ensures we can continue to provide affordable, cleaner energy access to consumers and businesses and help drive the energy transition.”

SunSource has a presence in key states in India with a portfolio of 500 MWp of solar PV assets under contract and development. It offers solar solutions to customers in industrial sectors including data centers, consumer products, metals and mining, automotive, chemicals, cement, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
