SPESA’s conference, taking place October 8-10, 2024, hopes to address the biggest issues facing America’s sewing suppliers today.

An opening keynote by Krista Schreiber, member of the Apparel and Textile Industry Advisory Board, who has 25 years of experience at leading brands such as Nike and Lululemon, will reveal how empathetic leadership is the secret to driving high-quality results.

Adidas’ Rickey Ruff will bring a hot topic in the industry to the event: revolutionary sustainability. He launched the first-ever nuclear-powered carbon offset to decarbonize fashion production and will share the inspiration behind and potential impact of this idea to strengthen sustainability efforts in the industry.

A panel of next-generation industry experts and young entrepreneurs will share their efforts, insights and vision for the future. The panel consists of Lila Rousselet from Montloup, Michael Mayr from silana, Jessica Ramey from Mercantilia Consulting and Marine Savard from mmode.

There will also be a trio of experts sharing their expertise on the latest developments in textile technology and a discussion on how technology can be used to drive ROI within the sector by apparel software specialists Aptean and Lectra.

SPESA members are also invited to a local factory tour, starting with Cirque du Soleil’s International Headquarters and Costume Workshop. Participants can also visit the CTT Group (a collegiate technology transfer center at the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe), a non-profit organization specialized in applied research, development and analysis in the field of technical textiles. geosynthetics and advanced textile-based materials.

Earlier this year, SPESA President Michael McDonald explained that the event deliberately moves from market to market each year to inspire new ways of thinking, provide new opportunities for connection and allow individuals to cross off a destination on their bucket list.

He added: “We are attracted to Montréal because of its rich industry presence, but we are also excited to showcase a beautiful, fun and historic city.”
