MIDRAND (Reuters) -An apparent glitch on the South African Election Commission website on Friday morning caused the results page for this week’s parliamentary elections to stop updating and go blank.

As of 06:30 GMT, the results page showed the number of votes as 0% complete, after previously showing results from more than 50% of polling stations. The elections took place on Wednesday.

An election commission official at the results center in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, said:

“We should be back online very soon and the data will be available again.

“We have not lost any data and our recordings are progressing, and there are no issues on that front.”

Technicians at the results center said they were working to resolve the issue.

Before the results page went blank, the vote count showed the ANC on course to lose its parliamentary majority with 42.3% of the vote, the opposition Democratic Alliance with 23.4% and the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party of former president Jacob Zuma with 10.8%. %.
