SAN FRANCISCO (KRONSan Francisco Mayor London Breed’s plan to bring giant pandas to the city’s zoo cleared another hurdle Tuesday. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 9-2 in favor of a resolution authorizing the city to solicit private donations to house the pandas from China.

That resolution was passed by a city commission last week. Tuesday’s vote passed despite criticism from critics who say mismanagement, animal welfare concerns and public safety problems that have plagued the San Francisco Zoo for years make it an inhospitable place for pandas.

They also claim that the cost of the pandas will exceed the $25 million Breed is requesting from private donors.

The meeting started around 2pm and the panda vote is expected to take place sometime on Tuesday evening.
