German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Friday that his announcement of further military support to Kiev is an important signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Playing for time will not work. We will not give up our support for Ukraine,” Scholz said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin.

The two leaders agree that Russia must participate in a peace conference to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, Scholz said.

“It is clear that peace can only be achieved on the basis of international law. This will require enormous efforts,” the Chancellor added.

“We will not accept a peace dictated by Russia,” he further emphasized.
