A Lufthansa flight from Germany to the Japanese capital Tokyo had to return to Munich for technical reasons, a Lufthansa spokesman said on Saturday.

The plane landed again at Munich Airport after about eight hours. The reason was an irregularity in the hydraulic display, according to the airline spokesman.

The 292 passengers on board the Airbus A350 were subsequently rebooked onto other flights, he added.

It was a priority landing, which normally involves emergency vehicles with flashing lights.

According to several flight radar system providers, the plane turned around over the Caspian Sea, between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

After a technical examination, the plane was operational again on Saturday, the spokesman said, adding that it was a classic technical defect.
