PANAMA CITY, FL (WMBB) – You don’t have to travel all the way to Germany this weekend to immerse yourself in Bavarian culture.

People can experience the culture and family-friendly fun here in Downtown.

Destination Panama City hosts the Oktoberfest every year.

Although Saturday will mark the 36th year that this fun tradition has continued, Friday marked the first time ever that a pub crawl, known as the People’s March, took place in downtown Panama City.

Hurricane Helene spared Franklin County

The Volksmarch is just a taste of what people can look forward to on Saturday.

“We have everything from authentic German cuisine to things the kids will love, because we all know they can be a bit picky sometimes, but there are also lots of things from artisan vendors. A total of 38 vendors will be present here. So we’re very excited,” said Aubrey Haskell, sports and special events liaison.

Visitors can see Harrison Avenue come alive with Bavarian festivities.

There will be a main stage in front of the Panama City Center for the Arts, where guests can enjoy live music.

There will be a costume contest, a strength and endurance contest and many other traditions.

“Just come back from three to nine and bring the family. Bring your friends. It literally has something for everyone. We even have a pretzel toss for the kids,” Haskell said.

The event brings the community together for a fun time and a good cause.

The Panama City Police Department sent officers to Taylor County after the hurricane

“During the Oktoberfest Festival, we are accepting hurricane relief for the victims of Hurricane Helene. So you can bring all your stuff to our destination at the tent in Panama City,” Haskell added.

If you have extra hurricane relief supplies, go to Oktoberfest on Saturday and stay for fun.
