Minister of the Israeli War Cabinet Bennie Gantz left the emergency government after a row about the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s post-conflict plans for Gaza.

At a press conference on Sunday where he announced his resignation, Mr. Gantz said Mr. Netanyahu was “keeping us from getting closer to a real victory.”

Last month, Gantz set a June 8 deadline for Netanyahu to outline how Israel would achieve his six “strategic goals,” including the end of Hamas rule in Gaza and the establishment of a multinational civilian administration for the territory.

Netanyahu dismissed the comments at the time as “washed-up words” that would mean a “defeat for Israel.”

Mr. Gantz was a member of Israel’s top decision-making “war cabinet,” along with Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
