Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday called on Western partners to provide swift assistance to help combat the Russian invasion, following his brief visit to Germany and other European countries.

“Time should not be wasted – a clear signal of determination must be sent,” Zelensky wrote on X.

“Our partners have the ability to provide the necessary quantity and quality of air defense systems, make decisions for our sufficient long-range capabilities and ensure the timely delivery of defensive assistance to our forces,” he added.

Zelenskiy said the Russians had dropped about 900 glide bombs over Ukraine in the past week, in addition to attacks with 40 missiles and 400 attacks with drones of various types. He released a video of the damage caused.

Night drone attacks

On Sunday alone, Ukrainian air defenses said they had shot down 31 Russian drones. In total there were 68 night drone attacks and several missile attacks. No information is available about possible damage.

Last week, Zelensky visited Rome, Paris and London, and met German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. During this European tour he promoted his so-called ‘victory plan’, which has not yet been made public.

However, it is clear that Ukraine is demanding the supply of long-range weapons from the West for attacks on military targets deep in the Russian hinterland. In addition, Kiev wants a concrete invitation for Ukraine to become a member of NATO.

The country is under increasing military pressure as a result of the Russian advance in eastern Ukraine. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and has been waging a devastating war ever since.
