Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said on Saturday that they had attacked Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport with a ballistic missile and that they had timed the attack to coincide with the arrival of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The alleged attack was announced hours after Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, an ally of the Houthis, confirmed the killing of its leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Houthis military spokesman Yehya Saree said the group “would not hesitate to increase the level of military escalation against Israel.”
“These operations will not stop until (Israeli) aggression against Gaza and Lebanon stops,” Saree added in a televised statement.
On Friday, the Houthis claimed two attacks, including one with a ballistic missile targeting Israel in support of their Palestinian and Lebanese allies.
Following a fatal drone strike on Tel Aviv by the Houthis, the Israeli air force attacked the port city of Hodeidah in July, leading to a massive fire and six deaths. Houthi leaders then announced a new phase in the fight against Israel.
The Houthi militants have also attacked ships in the Red Sea, saying the attacks are aimed at supporting the Palestinian Islamist Hamas group and putting an end to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
