Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militia has welcomed the attack on Israel by Lebanon’s Houthis-aligned Hezbollah movement, saying its own attack would be “inevitable.”
Hezbollah said earlier on Sunday it had completed the first part of its retaliatory strike for the killing of a top military commander. The Israeli army struck targets in southern Lebanon and called it an “act of self-defense.”
The Houthis’ political office congratulated Hezbollah and its leader Hassan Nasrallah for what it called a “great and courageous attack” and a “strong and effective response” to Israel, the Yemeni militia’s al-Masirah television channel reported.
“We reiterate that the Yemeni response is inevitable,” the group said, according to the broadcaster. The Houthis have claimed multiple attacks on Israel since the war in Gaza broke out last October.
The militants have also attacked ships in the Red Sea and said they want an end to Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, which followed the unprecedented carnage in Israel by the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas in an October attack.
