Israel carried out air strikes on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah on Saturday, media outlets loyal to Yemen’s Houthi militia, which has ties to Iran, reported.
According to TV al-Masirah, the Houthi mouthpiece, the “American and Zionist (Israeli) aggression” targeted oil storage facilities at the port of Hodeidah, causing fires and thick smoke.
The broadcaster, citing the Houthi-controlled Health Ministry, said there had been deaths and injuries in the Israeli strikes, but did not give specific numbers.
The attack came a day after the Houthis claimed responsibility for a drone strike on a “key target” in Tel Aviv, which the militias called retaliation for Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip.
A Houthi official confirmed Saturday’s attack was Israeli and vowed retaliation.
“There is an Israeli aggression in Hodeidah and a fire in Yemen’s main port,” said Nasruddin Amer, deputy head of the Houthis’ media authority.
“Yemen’s operations in support of Gaza will not stop and the response to this aggression is inevitable,” he said in an X message.
Houthi militants have also attacked ships in the Red Sea and said they want an end to Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, which followed the unprecedented massacre by the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas in Israel in October.
