Video shows Gaza orphans in Jordan, not Indonesia

The video was shared in similar posts on X, YouTube, Snack video And TikTokwhich was viewed more than 485,000 times in total.

According to UNICEF, there are an estimated 17,000 unaccompanied or separated children in Gaza. said in February (archived link).

Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto said in June that the world’s largest Muslim-majority country was willing to accept children from the Palestinian territories (archived link).

Irbid camp

The video was posted on the topic with the handle “@awatiHidajat”.

A search on Instagram found the account belongs to Kristinawati Hidajatchairman of the fundraising platform Golden future Indonesia (archived links here And here)

She Posted the video on Instagram on June 21where the location was identified as Irbid refugee camp in northern Jordan (archived link).

“Right now I am in the Palestinian camp, precisely in the Irbid area on the border of Syria and Jordan,” she wrote.

“These Palestinian orphans were all excited when we started treating them. We ate and gave out presents of chocolate, candy, cookies and they also chose the toys they liked. We spent about $45 for each orphan. Come on, who wants to (donate)!”

The Irbid camp was established in 1951 to accommodate Palestinian refugees who fled during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war (archived link).

In a separate Facebook post On June 25, she denied claims that the video showed Palestinian children being taken to Indonesia and staying in a hotel (archived link).

The images showed the Irbid camp on June 19 during Tasyrik Eid al-Adha, she wrote, referring to to the three days after the Islamic festival of Eid.

She said her team distributed meals and Eid gifts to “hundreds of Palestinian orphans.”

Indonesian Foreign Ministry information and media director Hartyo Harkomoyo confirmed to AFP that the video was not filmed in Indonesia.
