Typhoon Yagi tore through Southeast Asia this week, bringing heavy rains that have caused landslides and flooding, killing hundreds of people.
In Vietnam, the death toll rose to over 230 on Friday, while nearly 800 people were injured and more than 100 were missing, Vietnam’s disaster management agency said.
Many missing people were reported in Lao Cai province, where a flash flood wiped out the entire hamlet of Lang Nu.

In the capital, Hanoi, floodwaters from the swollen Red River “were beginning to recede,” the Associated Press reported. “But many neighborhoods remained inundated and further north, experts predicted it could be days before any relief is in sight.”
Yagi made landfall in Vietnam on Saturday, causing flooding and landslides in northern Thailand, Laos and northeastern Myanmar.
Photos taken after the storm show residents wading through chest-high water as rescuers use buckets to pull children and others to safety.
Other photos showed rescuers using jet skis to search for victims.
