JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Two people were injured in a stabbing attack at an Israeli shopping mall on Wednesday, Israeli police said.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that one of the two victims had been killed and that Israeli doctors had pronounced him dead.

Police called it a suspected terrorist attack and said the attacker had been killed. The mall is in Karmiel, northern Israel.

Israeli doctors said they had treated two men in their 20s, one in very serious condition and the other fully conscious.

Video footage of the incident shared on social media and viewed by Reuters showed two men lying motionless on the mall floor as people rushed to give them medical help.

At least one of the men receiving treatment was wearing a green uniform, the video showed. A third man, not in uniform, lay motionless a short distance away. No one was giving him treatment.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Israel is carrying out a military offensive in Gaza in retaliation for Hamas’ deadly attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year.

Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank was already increasing before the war in Gaza, but has further escalated with increasing Israeli military incursions, settler violence and Palestinian street attacks.

In January, one woman was killed and 12 others were injured in a Palestinian ram attack in central Israel.
