BERLIN (AP) — Three men have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of trying to gather information about an individual from Ukraine for a foreign intelligence service, prosecutors said Friday.

The suspects were arrested in Frankfurt on Wednesday, federal prosecutors said in a statement. They were identified as Robert A., a Ukrainian citizen; Vardges I., an Armenian citizen; and Arman S., a Russian citizen. Their full names have not been released in accordance with German privacy rules.

A judge on Thursday ordered them held in custody pending possible charges of working for a foreign secret service. In their statement, prosecutors did not specify which country’s intelligence agency the three allegedly spied for.

They said the suspects were tasked with collecting information about a person from Ukraine in Germany, whom they did not identify. To this end, the trio reportedly explored a cafe in Frankfurt on Wednesday where the person was probably located.
