The Slovenian government on Thursday approved a motion to recognize a Palestinian state and asked parliament to do the same. It comes just two days later Spain, Norway and Ireland recognized a Palestinian state, a move condemned by Israel.
In the Gaza Strip, Palestinians in the border town of Rafah have reported heavy fighting in recent days as the Israeli army expands its offensive in the south. seize control of the entire length of Gaza’s border with Egypt.
Outside Rafah, Israeli forces were still battling militants in parts of Gaza that the army said it had wrested control of months ago — possible signs of a low-level insurgency that could keep Israeli forces engaged in the area.
The fighting in Rafah has forced more than 1 million Palestinians to flee, most of whom had been displaced earlier in the war. They are now seeking refuge in improvised tent camps and other war-torn areas, where they lack of shelter, food and water and other essentials for survival, says the UN.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said Thursday that 53 people killed by Israeli attacks have been taken to hospitals in the past 24 hours, as well as 357 injured.
The Israeli war against Hamas in Gaza has cost the lives of more than 36,000 Palestinians. according to the Ministry of Healthin which no distinction is made between combatants and civilians.
Israel then started its war in Gaza Hamas’ attack on October 7 during which militants stormed into southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people – mostly civilians – and kidnapping around 250. Israel says about 100 hostages are still trapped in Gaza, along with the bodies of about 30 others.
