A drone intercepted by a German warship off the coast of Lebanon on Thursday was armed and exploded, a military spokesman in Berlin said.
The spokesman for the German armed forces, the Bundeswehr, said that “an explosive charge was detonated” when the drone was shot down in the “immediate vicinity” of the corvette Ludwigshafen am Rhein.
German lawmakers were informed of the incident in parliament.
No injuries or damage were reported on board the warship, which is participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The incident took place about 30 kilometers northwest of the Lebanese port of Naqoura, where UNIFIL is headquartered.
