Belgian dessert manufacturers Dessert Factory and Verbau have merged into a new company called Mellow.

Dessert Factory, founded in 2007 in Villers-le-Bouillet, Liège, produces baked desserts such as moelleux and cheesecake. Verbau, founded in 2010 in Leuze-en-Hainaut by Antoon Verschelden, is better known for raw desserts such as mousse, tiramisu and bavarois, according to a statement.

The newly formed company will now have three production sites in Villers-le-Bouillet, Leuze and a recently acquired site in Estrées-Deniécourt in northern France.

More than 250 people work at the locations where private-label dessert products are manufactured for major retailers, national brand desserts through various licenses and products under their own brand.

Sébastien Dryon, CEO of Mellow, said: “Despite Mellow’s growth, it was crucial for us to do everything possible to preserve the human and social values that are at the core of our DNA.

“That is why we have developed a roadmap that guides the decisions we make every day: promoting the development of our employees, reducing the environmental impact of our range, fairly distributing profits among stakeholders and, last but not least, but not least, creating strong partnerships are the guiding principles that help us stay on track.”

Mellow said in a statement that it expects to generate €100 million ($109.8 million) by 2024, with a target of €120 million by 2026.

The company also added that international expansion is a key driver as 85% of its revenue comes from exports.

Dryon added: “Currently our largest market remains Western Europe, including the Benelux, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. The US also has promising potential, where we already generate 20% of our turnover.

“What’s next? Further developing our presence in markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China and more.”

“The Belgian Dessert Factory, Verbau is merging” was originally created and published by Just eata brand owned by GlobalData.
