St. Paul’s Italian Fest comes to an end after a perfect weekend of culture, food and weather

A historical festival that ended on Sunday in the Little Italy neighborhood of Ere and that represents a certain European heritage.

The Italian Festival at St. Paul’s Church on Walnut Street celebrated its final day after a weekend of celebrating Italian heritage.

Sounds and smells of Italy fill the air during the 2024 St. Paul’s Italian Fest

The festival ended with a performance by Italian dancers, each representing a different region of Italy.

According to one chef, the weekend was a great success, with clear weather and a large turnout from the community.

“I can tell you that we’re probably going to use 3,000 cannolis and we’ve made 1,300 cream puffs, and we’re almost out of them. About 6,000 to 7,000 cookies… It’s been an amazing experience,” said Luigi Pontillo, captain of the Italian festival.

Pontillo added that the Italian community in Erie has been declining in recent years and that it is important to bring the community together to celebrate their heritage.
