Scores of Palestinians were killed in fighting in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Israel said eight members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, including a commander, were killed in an attack on a compound.

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, 33 people have been killed and 67 wounded in fighting in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours.

The Israeli military reported that the Hamas compound it attacked in Gaza city was located near al-Ahli Hospital.

It was also said that a Hamas commander, who was allegedly involved in the massive terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 that sparked the war, was among the dead.

Ahmed Fosi Nasir Mohammad Wadia is said to have paraglided over Israel on October 7 and ordered a massacre of civilians in a border town.

The October attack killed more than 1,200 people, while Gaza health authorities say at least 40,819 people have been killed in the coastal strip so far following Israel’s armed response.

The Israeli military (IDF) also reported destroying a Hamas tunnel more than a kilometer long in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza.

None of the claims made by either party could initially be independently verified.
