German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on the European economy during a Franco-German business meeting in Evian in eastern France on Friday, the Élysée reported.
After a one-on-one meeting, the two leaders would discuss the topic of European competitiveness with representatives of French and German businesses, officials said.
The talks follow a Franco-German cabinet meeting held in Meseberg, Germany, in May, which focused on strengthening Europe and creating a more sovereign economy in dealing with China and the US.
The annual Evian meetings, founded in 1992, bring together executives from German and French companies with the aim of strengthening economic relations between France and Germany. The traditional meeting is not open to the public.
