Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to world leaders in his speech to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday to make his country’s fight against the Russian invasion a top priority.
At the beginning of his speech, he spoke of a global nuclear disaster. He said that Russia is planning attacks on Ukrainian nuclear power plants to further hamper the country’s energy supply.
“Any missile or drone attack, any critical incident in the energy system, could lead to a nuclear disaster,” Zelensky said.
“Such a day must never come. Moscow must understand this, and this partly depends on your determination to put pressure on the aggressor.”
“If Russia, God forbid, causes a nuclear disaster in one of our nuclear power plants, then radiation does not respect state borders,” he continued.
