It appears that Ukraine wants to cut off Russian troops in the region.
Ukraine says it is destroying Russian pontoon bridges in Kursk before they can even be built.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian special forces released a video compilation that appears to show attacks on several Russian construction projects for pontoons, temporary floating bridges.
“Where do Russian pontoon bridges ‘disappear’ in the Kursk region?” wrote Ukraine Special Operations Forces Telegram accountand added that his soldiers “destroy them with precision”, according to Reuters translation.
The claim comes after reports that Ukrainian troops three permanent bridges destroyed across the Sejm River in western Russia, apparently in an attempt to isolate Russian forces there.
The footage, which Business Insider could not verify, was shared on the 16th day of the Ukrainian invasion of Russian territory.
On Monday, Ukrainian forces carried out “attacks on pontoon bridges and engineering equipment in the western part of their operational zone in the Glushkovo district.” Ukrainian think tank the Center for Defense Strategies reported.
Satellite images seen by the Associated Press showed pontoons at two locations along the Seym.
One of them, between Glushkovo and Zvannoye, was still visible on the images on Sunday, but by Monday it had disappeared again and smoke was rising in the area, the news agency reported.
The images were shared on X by Radio Free Europe reporter Mark Krutov:
A low resolution @planet Satellite photo from today, August 19, shows that the Russian pontoon bridge between Zvannoye and Glushkovo in Kursk Oblast has disappeared, with smoke rising 500 meters from where it used to be, on the “Russian” shore. This makes sense when we talk about the withdrawal. photo.twitter.com/YxtaNeyOzh

Ukraine says it captured just under 1,370 square kilometers of territory in Kursk, and has set up a military headquarters there, as a sign that it wants to dig in for the time being.
On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke said He wanted to create a buffer zone in the region.
The bridges destroyed so far are all along the Seym River, and their destruction appears to be an attempt to trap Russian troops between Ukrainian-controlled territory, the Ukrainian border and the river, AP reported.
Footage shared by Ukrainian special forces on Wednesday shows drones firing at technical equipment on the banks of the Seym River that is being used to install the temporary bridges.
Other fragments show how vehicles, presumably carrying the necessary equipment, are also disabled by drones.
