A Coventry robotics company has secured a multi-million pound contract in Spain to supply automated assembly lines for electric vehicles.

Expert Technologies Group, based on Sayer Drive, is teaming up with Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze (SEBN), a global automotive components supplier.

CEO Angelo Luciano said it was the first time the company had won an award in Spain since Brexit and the Covid pandemic.

The company, which designs and supplies robotic systems for assembly and other special automation machines, now hopes to carry out more projects in mainland Europe.

He added that a government agency for export credit helped close the deal, which created up to 10 jobs.

“Thanks to the support of UK Export Finance (UKEF) we were able to successfully secure the project,” he said.

Thanks to UKEF’s support, the company was able to use more than £1 million of working capital from NatWest Bank to fulfil the contract, the government agency said.

Export finance manager Fiona Begley said companies like Expert Technologies Group “play an important role in the global automotive supply chain”.

UKEF’s support has allowed the innovator to “leap into new markets and new customers, knowing the company has the right funding in place,” she added.
