Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday accused Ukraine of serious provocation following reports of a Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk border region.
During a government meeting broadcast on Telegram, Putin said that rockets had been fired at civilian targets and residential buildings.
Putin said he would receive more reports on the military situation during a meeting with the Defense Ministry, the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and the domestic intelligence service (FSB), which is responsible for border security.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that fighting was still ongoing in the Kursk region, a day after it claimed to have repelled a Ukrainian offensive.
In response, the Investigative Committee in Moscow, Russia’s top prosecutorial body, has opened a criminal investigation into what it describes as a terrorist attack on Russian territory.
