PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A tribute to a local leader known most for his perseverance.
Henry Chapman, also known as “Chappie” Chapman, was a former WMBD employee who played a key role in the construction of the Peoria Zoo’s African exhibit. He was honored today when the Peoria Zoo named their new navigation kiosk after him.
The kiosk is located at the front of the park and offers a map of the park and information about upcoming events.

According to the Peoria Park District, the kiosk’s construction is in memory of Chappie, who passed away in 2022.
“It’s a great way for his family to be able to celebrate him, for his friends to be remembered,” said Emily Cahill, executive director of the Peoria Park District. “And it just helps us on a daily basis because it allows us to do away with paper tickets. It allows us to be more environmentally friendly, which is all the things that Chappy would really like to see.”
Cahill also says the kiosk gives park visitors a chance to catch their breath and plan their day.
