A passenger plane with 62 people on board crashed in Brazil’s São Paulo state on Friday, the country’s president said. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said in a video posted on XIt is not immediately clear how many people were killed or injured.
The plane was en route from the southern city of Cascavel to the main international airport in São Paulo when it crashed in the nearby town of Vinhedo.
Videos circulating on the Internet show the plane spiraling downwards and then crashing into a residential building.
President Lulawho spoke at an event in southern Brazil, asked the crowd to observe a minute of silence after the incident. The president said it appeared all passengers and crew on board had died.
“There is still no confirmation on how the accident happened or what the current situation is of the people on board,” VoePass, the airline operating the flight, said in a statement.
