ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani police have raided the captured former prime minister Imran Khanthe political party’s office in Islamabad on Monday and arrested its spokesperson for spreading anti-state propaganda, the Interior Ministry said.
In a statement, the ministry said officers also arrested Ahmad Janjua, a media coordinator for Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, or PTI, party. Janjua was arrested in a separate raid over the weekend.
The arrests have drawn criticism from Gohar Ali KhanPTI chairman, who said authorities have also arrested several other workers from the party’s media wing in a series of police raids in recent weeks.
Pakistani authorities often accuse the PTI of campaigning against the country’s institutions, meaning the military, but the party denies this.
Khan has been involved in more than 150 cases since 2022, when he was ousted by a vote of no confidence in parliament.
He has been held in a prison in the garrison city of Rawalpindi since last year, following his arrest.
