Pakistan protests against Germany after protesters storm consulate premises in Frankfurt

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with Germany over its failure to prevent protesters from entering the premises of the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt. Pakistan is demanding action against “a gang of extremists” who it says have violated security and endangered the lives of its staff.

It was unclear what prompted the protesters to protest outside the building on Saturday. Pakistan has not identified those involved in the protest, but some of the protesters carried the tricolor flags of Afghanistan.

Videos are circulating on social media showing a protester taking down the Pakistani flag.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Darsaid on X that Pakistan has called on Germany to take immediate steps to arrest and prosecute those involved in the incident.

Frankfurt police reported that several men who took part in a demonstration on Saturday climbed over the fence of the Pakistani consulate in the city and took a flag.

According to a police statement, around 400 people were demonstrating outside the consulate on Saturday afternoon. About five to ten people climbed onto the consulate grounds and then disappeared back into the crowd.

Police were said to have removed other people from the site and the demonstration was ended.

Frankfurt police said an investigation is underway and officers are in contact with the Pakistani consulate.
