When I recently came home from a travel to Cartagena, I had two problems: first, I had to figure out how to change my life to be permanently based on the coast of South America, and second, my hair needed some serious TLC. The humidity of Colombia turned my previously smooth locks into chaos. Being so close to the equator meant I was never not sweaty, resulting in multiple showers a day. Add to that the rigors of pool dives and Caribbean swims. And that’s without even mentioning the repeated heat styling to twist my locks into cute looks for a night out on the town…

My locks were crying out for help. They needed moisture—now. My hair looked dry, lifeless, and a month (or two) overdue for a haircut.
Beauty Pie to the rescue. I kept my fingers crossed that a few key Beauty Pie Productsoffering high-end formulas at drugstore prices, lived up to expectations. Spoiler: they did.
What is Beauty Pie?
Beauty cake is a membership-based beauty and skincare brand launched in 2016 by Marcia Kilgore, who also founded brands like Bliss and Soap & Glory. By selling directly to consumers, Beauty Pie is able to sell high-quality products for a fraction of the traditional retail price. Think of it as a luxury treasure trove, minus the high costs, with a wide range of products including skincare, makeup, haircare, all at significantly reduced prices.
How does Beauty Pie work?
You can purchase products through Beauty Pie whether you are a member or not. However, membership, which can be purchased monthly or annually, offers the best product prices: close to the cost of production and all sourced from the world’s best labs. Annual membership costs $59 per year and monthly memberships cost $10 per month.
Does Beauty Pie have dupes?
Beauty Pie doesn’t explicitly offer direct dupes, but their products are comparable to similarly expensive alternatives. They source products from the same top-tier labs and manufacturers as well-known luxury brands, and are transparent about the typical retail price of a comparable product. So while their products aren’t exact copies, a similar formula will give you the same results—all for a significantly lower price.
My Honest Beauty Pie Hair Care Review
As a beauty writer, I’m lucky enough to regularly get to try out elite (*ahem,* expensive) hair care products. Some are worth the extra money, but many aren’t. I can say with confidence that Beauty Pie can easily compete with brands that cost four times as much. Beauty Pie gives them a serious run for their money, literally and figuratively.
I tried to breathe new life into my lifeless hair with three Beauty Pie products: the Ultra-nourishing shampoo and conditioner duo for very dry hair and the Super Healthy Hair Always On Leave-In Conditioning Treatment. This trio is ideal for all hair types, but especially dry, coarse or processed hair: all strands that can benefit from extra hydration. They are all packed with nourishing ingredients that restore softness and strengthen strands.

Within one wash, my hair felt smoother and silkier. Maybe it’s the shampoo’s impressive ingredients, like sweet almond seed extract, which infuses strands with shine. Or maybe it’s the avocado oil, which nourishes strands with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. The lustreplex shine enhancer doesn’t hurt either, combating frizz while detangling and adding shine without buildup.

I am prone to oiliness and can barely make it to day two without looking too greasy. Some shampoos seem to make this worse, they cling to the oil instead of washing it away. Not so with Beauty Pie. My hair looked fresh and clean (no residue!) but most importantly felt healthy, full of the nutrients it craved.
The conditioner is lightweight yet hyper-hydrating, the perfect balance for my long, fine hair. It contains a plant-based keratin blend, which helps hair look healthier and stronger, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate. The conditioner comes in a jar, which does take up more valuable space in my shower, but it’s worth it.
After washing and conditioning, I spritzed on the leave-in conditioner, which Beauty Pie calls a “day lotion” for your hair. Some leave-in conditioners can weigh down my fine hair, but this option was just as lightweight and luxurious. The hydrating formula is packed with keratin and a blend of vitamins B5, C, and E—the icing on the cake for my bouncy locks, all for a fraction of the traditional retail price.
I am quite sensitive to scents so I was relieved when I first used the lovely subtle almond scent. It smells natural and I was happy to have a hint of it lingering in my hair throughout the day.
Both my revived hair and I are newly found Beauty cake believers. Who knows, maybe I can hold off on my next trim for another month or two.
