Russia has strongly condemned the deadly Israeli attack on Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and demanded an immediate cessation of all hostilities by Israel.
“This violent action has potentially dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East,” a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
The ministry said Israel had recognized this danger but continued with the attack, “which will almost inevitably provoke a new outbreak of violence.” As a result, they said, Israel bears full responsibility for any subsequent escalation.
Israel is called on to immediately cease hostilities, the report said. “This would put an end to the bloodshed and create the conditions for a political and diplomatic solution,” the statement continued.
The secretary general of the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Friday.
