More than 20 people injured after Russian attack on apartment buildings in Ukrainian city of Kharkiv

Kiev, Ukraine (AP) — Russian strikes hit apartment buildings in Ukraine KharkovDozens of people were injured in a second consecutive night-time attack this week.

The bombs fell on Saturday night in the Shevchenkivsky district of northeastern Ukraine, local governor Oleh Syniehubov said. Residential buildings of 16 and 9 floors were destroyed and another seven buildings were damaged, he added.

According to Syniehubov and Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, twenty-one people were injured, including an eight-year-old child, two seventeen-year-olds and several elderly people.

The attack followed another on Friday night that injured 15 people, including a child aged 10 and 12, when Russian airstrikes hit three neighborhoods in Kharkiv, Terekhov said.

Ukrainian officials said both attacks used KAB-style gliders, a modified Soviet weapon that has plagued eastern Ukraine for months.

Russia also launched 80 Shahed drones and two missiles at Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force said in an online statement. Ukrainian air defense shot down 71 drones and another six were lost on location due to electronic warfare, the statement said.
