Lebanon’s interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with the country’s Disaster and Crisis Management Committee on Wednesday and discussed “possible scenarios” in the event of prolonged Israeli attacks.

The meeting came a day after Hezbollah beepers exploded across Lebanon in an operation Israel blamed for killing at least 12 people and wounding nearly 2,800.

Environment Minister Nasser Yassin, who heads the commission, stressed that efforts are being made to arrange sufficient reception centres and that there are about 100 schools that can be made available by the Ministry of Education and that work is already underway to equip them.

Regarding food supplies, Yassin said: “The food supplies are sufficient for more than three months and a ship with 40,000 tons of grain and flour is about to arrive in Lebanon.”

He added that 50,000 food rations provided by third parties, including the World Food Programme, could be distributed to the displaced.

“We also discussed the logistics needed to ensure the Disaster and Crisis Management Committee can function, including communications, roads, transportation and emergency and crisis spaces,” Yassin added.
