Kenyan President Willem Ruto has fired all of its ministers and the attorney general with “immediate effect” following recent deadly protests that led to the withdrawal of an unpopular tax law.

The president said the decision was taken after “reflection, listening to Kenyans and an overall assessment of my cabinet”.

He has said he will now hold broad consultations to establish a broad-based government.

The dissolution of his cabinet has no consequences for the vice president, who cannot legally be dismissed, or for the prime minister, who is also foreign minister.
