Jordanian Foreign Minister Aiman al-Safadi has traveled to Tehran for mediation talks amid threats of an Iranian retaliatory strike on Israel, local media reported on Sunday.
According to reports, in talks with Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, he wanted to dissuade the country from taking military action against Israel.
According to official statements from Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atti also called on Kani in a telephone conversation to exercise calm and restraint so that the situation in the Middle East does not get out of hand.
According to Iranian media reports, Iran has so far rejected all mediation attempts.
Following the targeted killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday, Iran threatened massive revenge attacks on Israel.
The commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned on Saturday that militant groups allied with Iran in the region would also take part in the retaliatory strike.
