TEL AVIV (Reuters) – The Israeli military is investigating whether an explosion in central Tel Aviv early on Friday was the result of a drone strike, the army said.

According to police, the body of a man was found in an apartment near the explosion. The circumstances are under investigation.

“Earlier this evening (Friday), an explosion was heard in the area of central Tel Aviv. We are investigating reports that it was an aerial target. The incident is under investigation,” the military said in a brief statement.

No air raid sirens were reported prior to the explosion, which came hours after the Israeli military confirmed that a senior commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia had been killed in southern Lebanon.

Images from the scene showed shards of glass strewn across city sidewalks as large groups of bystanders gathered around the scene, near a building with blast marks that was cordoned off with police tape.
