One person was killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Saturday, state media and the Israeli military reported.

The Lebanese news agency NNA reported, citing the Ministry of Health, that two people were also injured in the attack on a car near the town of Bazourieh in southern Lebanon.

But the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported earlier on Saturday that the army had “eliminated the terrorist Ali Nazih Abed Ali, a senior terrorist in Hezbollah’s southern front, in the Bazouriyeh area of southern Lebanon.”

“Abed Ali was involved in the Southern Front’s terrorist activities, planning and carrying out various terror activities. The elimination of Abed Ali is a major blow to the capabilities of the Southern Front and to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the area,” the IDF said.

Hezbollah also confirmed his death, but did not provide details about his rank or position.

The Israeli attack was in retaliation for an attack by pro-Iranian Shiite militias earlier on Saturday in northern Israel.

The situation in the Middle East has deteriorated significantly in recent times.

Following the targeted killings of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has vowed revenge.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, there has been daily shelling between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, with casualties on both sides.
