A Hezbollah commander and his bodyguard were killed in an Israeli drone strike near the port city of Tyre on Wednesday, security and Hezbollah sources said.

The car was attacked in the al-Hosh region, east of Tyre.

Hezbollah confirmed the deaths of the two people, but gave no further details.

According to Lebanese security sources, the killed commander is Mohammed Naameh Nasr, known as Abu Nameh and the head of a Hezbollah brigade.

Israel and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah have been fighting almost daily since the war in Gaza began.

There are fears that the conflict will spread as Israel wants Hezbollah to withdraw behind the Litani River, 30 kilometres from the border – as stipulated in UN resolution 1701.

The Iran-backed militia will not stop shelling until there is a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
