Israel was attacked with 10 rockets from Lebanon on Friday morning, the army said.
Smoke from explosions was visible in the sky above Haifa, the country’s main port city. The military said some missiles had been intercepted and others had landed in undeveloped areas. No information was provided about possible victims.
Lebanon’s Shiite militia Hezbollah claimed to have attacked the Haifa region with Fadi-1 rockets.
They have been bombing Israel almost daily since the start of the Gaza war almost a year ago.
The militia, which is an ally of Iran, claims its aim is to support the Palestinian militant organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip in its fight against Israel and reach a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
Israel previously responded with similar force, but since the beginning of the week its air force has carried out massive airstrikes in Lebanon, killing hundreds. International attempts to broker a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful.
