The so-called terrorist group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the deadly stabbing in Solingen, saying the perpetrator was a member of the group and carried out the attack as “revenge for Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere,” according to a statement from the group’s spokesman, Amak.
The perpetrator of the attack is still at large. He stabbed three people at a festival in the city on Friday night and injured eight others.
A major manhunt is underway, but police have not yet identified a suspect or released a clear description of the attacker.
The attacker stabbed several people during a festival celebrating the city’s 650th anniversary.
