Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called for a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza on Saturday, days after Tehran fired a volley of rockets into Israel.

During a visit to the Syrian capital Damascus, Araghchi described a ceasefire as “the most urgent issue,” Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.

The foreign minister said Israel is the main obstacle to peace and called on the international community to oppose Israeli “war crimes” to achieve peace.

Israel has warned it will retaliate after Tehran’s rocket attacks, with attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities a likely possibility.
