Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN said Hezbollah should not “limit itself to military objectives alone.”

The attack comes in response to an Israeli raid on Beirut on Tuesday that killed a senior Hezbollah officer.
Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN has said Hezbollah is likely to respond to Israel’s killing of one of its top military commanders with “broader and deeper targets” on Israeli soil.
“Until now, Hezbollah and the regime have in practice adhered to certain restrictions in their military operations under an unwritten agreement, meaning that they limited their actions to border areas and shallow zones, focusing primarily on military targets,” the mission said in a statement. rack on Friday evening, Iranian state news reported.
But it appears that the Israeli strike on Tuesday on Dahieh, a suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut, which killed Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fuad Shukr, has changed that.
“We expect that Hezbollah will choose both broader and deeper goals in its response and will not limit itself solely to military objectives and means,” the mission said in its statement.
The mission told CBS News that such targets would be located on Israeli territory.
Iran’s permanent representative to the UN did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
There is growing fear of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Israel said it launched the attack on Beirut in response to an attack that killed 12 youths in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. Israel said Hezbollah was behind the attack.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said at Fuad Shukr’s funeral that the war with Israel had “entered a new phase” and that Israel had “crossed red lines,” Al Jazeera reported.
The militant group expected a “real, measured” response to the attack, he added.
Daniel Hagari, a spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces, said on Thursday: “While we would prefer to resolve the hostilities without a wider war, we are fully prepared for any scenario.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also warned that “Israel will exact a high price for any aggression against us, from whatever arena.”
Hezbollah has been carrying out attacks on Israel in support of the Palestinian militant group Hamas since the October 7 attacks that killed about 1,200 people in Israel.
Israel has struck back hard against Hezbollah, specifically targeting Hezbollah commanders and infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
