Iran has declared three days of national mourning following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. A funeral march is planned in the capital on Thursday, IRNA news agency reports.

Haniyeh will be buried in Qatar on Friday after funeral prayers, the Palestinian Islamist movement said.

Hamas said its leader was killed in an Israeli strike in Tehran. Haniyeh was visiting the Iranian capital to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian.

Israel has not yet commented on the incident. Iran and Hamas have announced retaliatory measures.
